SUMMARY

Our clients vision is to be the integrated, customer-focused epidemiologic and global health surveillance expert for the U.S. Armed Forces. The Armed Forces Health Surveillance Division (AFHSD) provides timely, relevant, actionable, and comprehensive health surveillance information in order to promote, maintain, and enhance the health of military and military-associated populations.

The Epidemiologist will manage a congressionally mandated study about cancer incidence and mortality in military fixed-wing aviators and aviation support staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage complex datasets from multiple sources, and provide coordination and oversight of the study to meet institutional review board, privacy, and human protections requirements
Support efforts across the full project cycle, including, but not limited to:
Reviewing relevant literature
Project conceptualization
Proposal development and submission
Project documentation and compliance (e.g., IRB protocol, data-sharing agreements, etc.)
Data collection, data management, data analysis, presentation of results, and preparation of manuscripts.
Use the North American Association Consolidated Cancer Registry (NAACCR) mortality data.
Analyze public health surveillance data using SAS to produce complex graphs and figures
Analyze cancer exposure pathways and cancer classification
Establish the comparison of cancer incidence and mortality in military fixed-wing aviators and aviation support staff to the general population
Performs other job-related duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY
No supervisory or management authority

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Masters of Public Health or equivalent scientific degree in epidemiology
Two (2)-Four (4) years of experience in cancer epidemiology

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Solid knowledge base in computer programming (writing and reading) including detailed knowledge of statistical software including SAS; familiarity with Oracle database structures; and experience using SQL
Possess excellent organizational skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint
Excellent written oral and written communications skills
Team player and collaborates well with professionals.
Technical skills to conduct analyses, write reports, prepare briefings, and coherently present results
Knowledge and understanding of cancer epidemiologic study designs
Knowledge of or previous experience working with MHS data or administrative healthcare data preferred
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to collaborate with others on projects and investigations but also work independently when needed
Must be a US Citizen
Have an Active Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain one
The ability to successfully pass a drug screen and a federal background check is mandatory

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Climate-controlled office during normal business hours
